S53 Blades.

S53 blades in 2” and 2 3/8” to fit Bailey pattern planes.
These blades are the last of their kind, when they are gone I am not making any more (found these hidden away). They are precision ground on all surfaces and with polished facets. These blades are made from powder metallurgical steel, which has basically the same characteristics as the A2. Tests have shown that the edge will last several times longer than the A2 blades, saving even more down time.

The blades are treated in a vacuum furnace to a high temperature to achieve a hardness of HRC64, they are also triple tempered and cryogenically treated.

Price:
2” = £80.00 + vat (if applicable)
2 3/8” = £92.00 + vat (if applicable)

No.98 Smoothing Plane.

I still have a few left from my most recent batch of No.98 Smoothing Planes. As I am now concentrating entirely on new projects this will be your last chance to buy a No.98 ('off the shelf' and with no waiting time). Please contact me if you wish to purchace one of these.

A1 14 ½" Panel Plane - Special edition.

Over the years I have been asked many times 'when am I going to make a 14 ½" A1?' Although it is my intention to move away from infill planes, a number of these planes have been promised. I will make one batch only. This could be the last A1 I make – I will be concentrating on new designs in future.

The process is really the same as all the other A1 which are described in detail elsewhere on this site. The price is £4,600 - the last opportunity to buy an A1 of this quality. The following images are computer generated but I will update the site with work in progress photos.

Welcome to the website of Holtey Classic Hand Planes, a showcase for the work of Karl Holtey craftsman toolmaker and engineer.

'Karl Holtey practices a trade centuries old and is widely regarded as the leading exponent of classic British pattern planes, in the footsteps of makers like Spiers, Mathieson and Thomas Norris. ..... Karl is a focussed and passionate man, who over the years has built up a considerable reputation as a plane-maker; he's also one of the world's authorities on the wood infill British pattern plane.'
