From the Workshop

Window to my workshop 46

As I am currently working on a small batch of No 982 14 1/2″ panel planes I thought I would show this picture of all the component parts of the smoother.   Most of the parts are going to be the same.

This picture excludes taper pins, handle, lever cap, screw and adjuster.

There will be more pictures as I work through the project.

  2. I’m amazed! How did you know that the brass cylinders would perfectly deform into cones without splitting or deforming unevenly? Is there a technical reason why they are milled as cylinders rather than cones – or is it just that would be unecessary work?

I hope you keep making planes for a long while yet so I can save up for one – a smoother for sure.

  3. Hi Steve

Thank you for your comments. Although I like to show what goes into the making of these planes I do leave some bits of information out as I like to have some secrets.

  4. Well they are a great detail – I can see why you’d keep the method a secret.
