Welcome to my blog.  It is my intention to use this forum to give a better insight into my workshop so you can see what makes my planes different.  It may change some opinion when it comes to the pricing of my planes.  It will allow you to see ‘inside’ my planes where the work is hidden.

I will show my work piecemeal and in no set order as I have lots of things I want to say and show, both current and past.  I do not have the time to edit into any order.  I have a large archive of photographs which I will be publishing over a period of time.  Also I will discuss techniques etc on request if time permits.

  1. Plane makers of old such as Norris and Spiers would have been in awe of your absolutely masterful execution of contemporary plane making. You seem to have a rare skill in leading the way in innovative design yet capturing perfectly the spirit and romance of the early woodworking planes. This is why Holtey planes will remain for generations to come objects of desire. you are one of the UK’s most gifted craftsman.

  3. Thanks so much for sharing the techniques and reasoning behind the fabrication of your planes. The finished planes are awe-inspiring in their thoughtful design and the close attention to every detail of their construction. To see the workshop details of the way they’re made should be of interest to anyone who makes either furniture or tools to a high standard.

  4. Hi Steve

In the earlier days I jealously guarded my techniques but I now don’t mind sharing what I know. Well it is not rocket science just attitude of mind.
